Felix made this pencil drawing in southern Oregon as a preliminary study for his larger oil painting, Gray Day on the Pacific Coast.
All of Felix's paintings begin with a similar sketch. None of his paintings begin with a photograph. In Fact, Voltsinger never uses a camera. Quoting the artist,
"(I am) Categorically opposed to any type of photograph. I have eighteen year of study in drawing. Sketch is about how you feel. Photograph is about how it look. "
