The landscape paintings of Liz Thele represent field studies and larger studio pieces of her favorite subject the western landscape. A graduate from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, her early career pursued more abstracted subjects. In 1989 she and her family moved to Colorado. It was in the early 1990's because of her love of nature, her interest in painting shifted towards the landscape.
Liz Thele pursued her landscape interests by studying with many accomplished artists like Clyde Aspevig, Matt Smith and Dan Young and several members of the Plein -Air Painters of America. It was internationally renowned landscape artist Clyde Aspevig who got her painting outdoors. In 2002 it was a joy to be included in a group show of some of my favorite peers entitled,'Earth,Sky,Fire,Water,Paint' held at the Art Center in Grand Junction Colorado. This show included such accomplished artists as Len Chmiel, Gerald Fritzler, Tom Lockhart, Ralph Oberg, Skip Whitcomb, Wayne Wolfe and Dan Young. Thele has participated in and won numerous awards around Colorado. In 2005 Thele won an Honorable Mention in the Salon International Masters show held in San Antonio Texas.
